  • Rodney K. Bates, M.D.

    Dr. Rod Bates has been practicing Family Medicine in Lincoln County for nearly 45 years. He graduated from Berea College and the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He is a member of the KAFP and AAFP. Dr. Bates is Board Certified in Family Medicine with a recertification due in 2019. Dr. Bates is the Chair for the local Board of Health, Credentialing Chair for Fort Logan Hospital, and member of the Risk Management Committee at Ephraim McDowell Hospital. Dr. Bates and his wife Cindy, share seven children and 16 grandchildren. He enjoys reading, UK sports, especially football, spending time with family, keeping up with advancements in medicine, being involved in medical care outside of private practice, and maintaining special relationships with his patient friends.

  • James A. Miller, M.D.

    Dr. Miller moved to Kentucky in 1985 after completing a residency in family medicine at Hinsdale Hospital outside of Chicago. His first project in Kentucky was to open a birthing center at Fort Logan Hospital. His guidance and innovative ideas have helped to shape much of the current design, practices and philosophies of the Birthing Spa at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital. Providing prenatal care and birth as well as caring for newborns and children are his favorite parts of practice. Participating in the birth of a newborn still brings joy after over 30 years of delivering. He lives with his wife Andrea on a small farm where the joy of birth continues with baby calves. They've been married for over 38 years. They have raised three children and are currently enjoying two new grandchildren. He enjoys studying the Bible and teaching it to others. He was born and raised in Minnesota and enjoys the snow.

  • Christopher D. Sims, M.D.

    Dr. Sims received his medical degree from the University of Louisville and completed his internship and residency in Family Practice at the Trover Clinic in Madisonville, Kentucky. He and his wife Pattie live in Stanford and have four children, Kaylee, Caleb, Josie, and Parker. He enjoys boating, wakeboarding, golf and spending time with his family.

  • Samantha Brook Shell, ARNP

    Samantha graduated in 2012 from Eastern Kentucky University and is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She began her career working at the Waynesburg Clinic in 2013. Samantha enjoys seeing a variety of patients of all ages. She is married to Jonathan Shell and is a proud mother of three children, Jaxson, Lydia, and Reagan.

  • Michelle Martin, PA-C

    Michelle Martin, PA-C, graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Allied Health with a degree in Clinical Lab Sciences with a goal of entering the Physician Assistant Program in the future. As a child, Michelle always told her parents she wanted ‘to make sick people better’. After performing medical testing at the University Hematology and Microbiology labs, she applied and was accepted into the UK Physician Assistant Studies Program. Michelle graduated in early 2001 with honors, including receiving the Mary C. Vittetoe Award for Excellence in Service to the Community. She was accredited by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants and began working as a PA in the Berea Hospital Emergency Room. After marrying her husband, Jonathan, she began working at the office of Dr.’s Miller and Sims in 2001. Michelle’s passion is developing long-term relationships with her patients and working for compassionate and supportive physicians. Michelle sees a wide-variety of patients, from newborn babies, Acute sick patients, and Chronic Care. Michelle is married to husband, Jonathan, and has two children. She enjoys church, travel, spending time with family, and sporting events with her children.   • Jamie Atwood ARNP, CNM

    Jamie Atwood is a Board-Certified Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse Midwife. Jamie graduated Eastern Kentucky University with a BSN, attended the University of Southwestern Medical School in 2003 where she received her Women’s Healthcare Nurse Practitioner degree. Jamie also attended Frontier University, receiving her MSN in Midwifery, as a Certified Nurse Midwife in 2010. Jamie joined the practice of Bates, Miller and Sims in 2006 and has also served as an officer in the US Navy. Jamie lives in Lincoln County with her husband, Monty Atwood. They have four children and four grandchildren. Jamie enjoys fishing, hiking, being outdoors, and taking care of women throughout their life span, including pregnancy and Gynecology needs.

  • Trina Davis, Sonographer

    Trina Davis is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in abdominal, breast, and OBGYN since 1993. Trina has 32 years’ experience in Sonography, 20 years in a hospital setting. She has worked with Bates, Miller and Sims for over ten years. Trina’s favorite part of her job is making patients feel comfortable and happy. Trina lives in Hustonville, Kentucky, with her husband, Richard. She has two children, Ross and Brandi, and five grandchildren. Besides enjoying her job and family, Trina enjoys going to church, gardening and sewing.
